PhD Position in IP Routing, Wireless Networks at 60 GHz and Context-aware D2D Communications at Madrid

02 March 2015 (23:59 CET) – Deadline for receipt of applications

PhD Position in IP Routing in Internet Service Providers networks (Routing Research Group)

The Routing Research Group led by Dr. Pierre Francois invites applications for a Phd Student position in the area of Networked Systems. This is a position to carry out advanced research tasks in the area of IP Routing in Internet Service Providers networks.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of IP Routing, OSPF, BGP, MPLS

  • Strong knowledge of Cisco Systems, Inc. router configuration

  • Ability to program in several programming languages

    (C, C++, Python)

  • Experience with Internet Service Provider network operations

PhD Position in Wireless Networks at 60 GHz (mmwave)

The research group led by Dr. Domenico Giustiniano invites applications for a PhD Student position in the area of wireless  networks at 60 GHz (mmwave).

The explosion of cellular usage in current 4G networks and the saturation of micro-wave frequencies for communication make necessary to investigate novel technologies, protocols and algorithms. One very promising candidate is the wireless communication at 60 GHz (mmwave), where a very large bandwidth can be exploited for the next generation of cellular networks. The unique features of the mmwave channel, such as highly directional communication and body blockage pose important challenges in the design of novel network protocols. This position will address a few of the key questions in this domain.

Requirements:

  • We expect an excellent degree in electrical engineering, telecommunication engineering or equivalent disciplines.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with solid background in wireless networks, network simulation, and hands-on experience in experimental work.

The selected student will be supervised by Dr. Domenico Giustiniano.

PhD Position in Context-aware D2D Communications for 5G Networks

The research group led by Dr. Vincenzo Mancuso invites applications for up to 2 PhD Student positions on context-aware D2D communications for 5G networks. The student(s) will work on design and prototyping of novel context-aware D2D schemes and applications for heterogeneous 5G wireless networks with challenging bandwidth, delay and efficiency requirements.

Requirements:

  • High proficiency in programming with C/C++, Matlab, Mathematica, LabVIEW and scripting languages

  • Strong background on wireless networking

PhD Position in Millimeter-wave Networking (Wireless Networks and Communications Group)

The research group led by Dr. Joerg Widmer invites applications for a Phd Student position in the area of Wireless Networking. This is a position to carry out advanced research tasks in the area of networking for millimeter-wave communication and the new IEEE 802.11ad standard.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of wireless networking and communications, in particular wireless local area networks and mobile networking

  • Ideally knowledge in the area of wireless physical layer concepts, hands on experience with wireless testbeds, and/or knowledge of millimeter-wave communication

  • Ability to program in several programming languages

    (C, C++, Python, Perl)
