Benjamin A. Gilman International Undergraduate Scholarship

The application for Summer 2015 and Fall 2015/Academic Year 2015-2016 will open in mid-January. 

The Gilman Scholarship is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is open to U.S. undergraduate students who demonstrate high financial need.


The applications for Spring 2015 and Early Application for Summer 2015 are now closed. Spring 2015 applicants will be notified of their status in late November and Early Application Summer 2015 applicants will be notified in February.

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is open to all U.S. citizen undergraduates, in good academic standing, who meet the criteria listed below:

 

• The applicant must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant or provide proof that he/she will be receiving a Pell Grant at the time of application or during the term of his/her study abroad program or internship.


• The applicant is applying to or has been accepted into a study abroad program or internship eligible for credit by the student’s accredited institution of higher education in the U.S.


• The applicant is studying or interning abroad for at least four weeks in one country. Programs going to more than one country are eligible if the student will be in one country for at least four consecutive weeks.

Deadlines & Timeline Overview

Students can study and intern abroad during the spring, summer, fall or academic year term. Refer to each term for specific dates on the deadlines and timelines for the application cycle. It is important that students apply for the correct scholarship term according to their program dates in order to be considered for the Gilman Scholarship.

Please be aware that the application deadline is in Central Time and take into consideration the applicable time difference as you prepare to submit your application. Late applications are not accepted.

Spring Programs

The spring application cycle is for programs that generally start between December 15 and April 15, and coincide with your home institution’s or your international program’s spring calendar. This cycle encompasses spring semester, quarter, calendar year, winter inter-session and January term programs that are a minimum of four weeks in length.
